My best friend, dog Ping-Pong, almost died from dental disease.
I adopted my Shih-Tzu, Ping-Pong from a rescue 15 years ago while living in Paris.
We traveled the world together and she has been the witness to my life. Though I prided
myself on the great care I took of her I missed something so important that it could have
shortened the life of a life I could not imagine having in mine.
Looking back now all the signs were there. Ping-Pong had bad breath for years. I didn't
sense that she was in any pain so when she started slowing down I just figured it was a
result of aging. I never thought to look in her mouth. Perhaps it was my own trepidation of the dentist, but it never occurred to me that she could be in pain, that the poor health of her mouth could be affecting her energy level, or behavior, let alone to have her teeth professionally cleaned.
I received my wake-up call when Ping-Pong was seven years old and we moved to Malibu, CA. My new veterinarian looked into Ping-Pong's mouth and was aghast with what he found. Seeing it said it all. Examination confirmed if the infected teeth were not removed, the bacteria surrounding the roots would soon access her blood stream, and likely result in a premature death. He also told me that Ping-Pong had been suffering in silence all these years, as animals do. I was devastated. I felt guilty. I worried that she
would never be the same.
After the dental cleaning and extractions she wasn't the same. She was a new dog! But I knew this was only the first step. In order to keep her mouth free of disease I would have to partner with my veterinarian and take an active role in her home daily dental care.
My mission became to EXTEND the life of the life I could not imagine having in me. I'm sure you can relate.
And healthymouthTM was born.
Today, Ping-Pong, is my personal testimonial to its amazing results. At the age of 15 years, drinking healthymouthTM every day in conjunction with annual dental veterinary cleanings performed under anesthesia, (yes even at age 15, it is that important and safe) she has little or no plaque, healthy gums, and a mouth relieved of pain. Ping-Pong has more energy, a stronger immune system and is in far better overall health than at age seven. I know it's a DIRECT result of the excellent health of her mouth.
